'Sam proved to be an excellent Tutor, patient and generous with his help and providing not only his expertise but loan of brushes, paint, etc. He came well prepared and also provided the exceptional quality photographs for us to work from. Time was our biggest problem (not due to Sam but our workshop time) and only one participant (I think) managed to complete a portrait, whereas the majority of us went away to continue the process. Definitely an enjoyable day for all of us and we look forward to welcoming Sam back again for future workshops.'

'It was a terrific workshop - I learnt a lot about creating portraits and will be using this tonal way of looking at subjects in the future. I felt really enthused to carry on and finish the portrait off at home!

'Hi Sam, just to say I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop. It was great that you were able to get round us all to help at various stages so the number of people worked really well. I am really pleased with my effort so happy for you to put on your website... but I am sure there will be others far more deserving but if you are short then that's ok!!! The practice at the beginning was really useful for us beginners.

I would most definitely like to do another workshop, it has opened my eyes to the alternatives to watercolour....

'I really enjoyed your workshop last week, it was really great to see what can be done with just black & white. I sometimes struggle to mix colours correctly so i think this suited me! I did feel that perhaps a whole day's workshop would have been of benefit so that more could have been done in the time with your guidance instead of trying to finish it at home?!'

'Sam's method of teaching is relaxed and fun. Helpful, positive, no stress. There wasn't enough time to finish the portrait during the afternoon, but we were left at a stage of knowing where to go next and I really enjoyed finishing it at home. Sam's tuition has given me the confidence to try another portrait for myself.'
