Projects

Both of my biggest projects have used portraiture as the basis for representing community.

The first, which remains incomplete, was a portrait of the community of Bretonside bus station in Plymouth which was closed down after more than fifty years to make way for a leisure complex.

It was home to two record shops, two nightclubs and several other small businesses.

After nearly a decade of hosting a night in one of these venues with a group of friends, I wanted to make an artwork that recognised the contribution made by this undervalued community to the cultural identity of Plymouth.

The second project I called 'A Portrait of Launceston' was part of an initiative titled 'Studios on the High Street' where several different artists and art groups were commissioned to engage the local community in an attempt to bring people and activity back into the town centre in the wake of the pandemic.
